Clutch Adaptation
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
Clutch Adaptation recalibrates the clutch engagement point (bite point) on automated manual transmissions (AMT), dual-clutch transmissions (DCT/DSG), and some automatic transmissions. These use electro-hydraulic actuators controlled by the TCM which must know the exact position where the clutch begins transmitting torque. As friction material wears, the touch point changes and the TCM’s learned values become inaccurate.
Perform after clutch replacement, TCM/mechatronic replacement, actuator replacement, battery replacement clearing adaptations, or when experiencing jerky launches, harsh gear changes, aggressive/insufficient creep, and delayed engagement. On the YOUCANIC UCAN-II, the procedure requires level ground, operating temperature, A/C off, and may instruct specific throttle/brake inputs while it recalibrates. DSG/DCT transmissions are particularly sensitive to adaptation values.
