The DEF Dosing Module (also called the supply module or metering unit) is the assembly that draws DEF fluid from the tank, pressurizes it, and delivers it to the reductant injector at the correct pressure and flow rate commanded by the ECU. The module typically contains an electric pump, pressure sensor, temperature sensor, filter, and control electronics. Some systems integrate the dosing module with a reverting function — after engine shutdown, the module reverses flow to drain DEF from the supply lines back into the tank to prevent freezing and crystallization in the lines during cold weather (DEF freezes at 12F/-11C).

Dosing module failures trigger aftertreatment DTCs including P20E8 (Reductant Pressure Too Low), P20EE (SCR Efficiency Below Threshold due to insufficient dosing), and manufacturer-specific pump codes. Common failures include internal pump wear reducing pressure output, frozen DEF cracking internal components on vehicles parked in extreme cold, clogged filters from contaminated DEF, and electrical connector corrosion.
