📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) uses computer-controlled injectors to deliver precise fuel based on MAF/MAP, TPS, RPM, coolant temp, O2 sensor feedback, and other inputs. Universal on vehicles since the mid-1990s, EFI provides automatic altitude compensation, cold-start enrichment, lower emissions, better economy, and OBD self-diagnostics that carburetors could not offer.
All modern diagnostic procedures — DTCs, live data, fuel trim analysis — are based on EFI architecture. Fuel delivery problems are diagnosed through scanner data (fuel trims, injector pulse width, fuel pressure PIDs) rather than mechanical adjustments.
