EPAS
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
EPAS (Electric Power-Assisted Steering) is an alternative abbreviation for the electric power steering system, commonly used by Ford, BMW, and other manufacturers. The system is functionally identical to EPS — an electric motor provides steering assist based on driver input from the torque sensor and vehicle speed. EPAS may refer specifically to column-assist systems (motor on the steering column) as opposed to rack-assist (motor on the steering rack), though the terms are often used interchangeably.
EPAS failures and diagnostics are identical to EPS — loss of assist, EPS warning light, torque sensor faults, and motor failures. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II reads EPAS module codes and supports steering angle sensor calibration required after alignment or steering component replacement.
