Tools and Parts Needed:
Replacement front brake pads (ensure they match the specifications of your vehicle)
C-clamp or brake caliper piston tool
Socket wrench set
Breaker bar
Torque wrench
Brake cleaner
Brake grease
Jack and jack stands or hydraulic lift
Wheel chocks
Instructions:
Prepare the Vehicle:
Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels but do not remove them completely.
Raise the Front of the Vehicle:
Using a jack, lift the front of the vehicle and securely support it with jack stands.
Ensure the vehicle is stable and safely elevated before proceeding.
Remove the Front Wheels:
Once the vehicle is lifted and secured, remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels.
Access the Brake Caliper:
Locate the brake caliper assembly behind the front brake rotor.
Depending on the specific model, you may need to remove additional components or clips to access the caliper.
Remove the Brake Caliper:
Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts securing the brake caliper to the caliper bracket.
Once the bolts are removed, carefully lift the caliper away from the brake rotor and suspend it using a wire hanger or bungee cord to prevent damage to the brake line.
Replace the Brake Pads:
Inspect the brake pads and note their orientation for replacement.
Use a C-clamp or brake caliper piston tool to compress the caliper piston back into its housing to make room for the new brake pads.
Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket and install the new brake pads in their place.
Reinstall the Brake Caliper:
Carefully lower the brake caliper back onto the brake rotor and align it with the caliper bracket.
Insert and tighten the bolts securing the caliper to the bracket to the manufacturer’s specifications using a torque wrench.
Reinstall the Wheels:
Place the front wheels back onto the wheel hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
Lower the vehicle to the ground and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications in a crisscross pattern.
Test the Brakes:
Before driving the vehicle, pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure proper brake pad seating.
Test the brakes at low speeds to verify that they’re functioning correctly.
Final Checks:
Double-check all connections and ensure that the brake calipers are securely mounted and the wheels are properly tightened.
