Tools/Items Needed:
Jumper cables
Another vehicle with a fully charged battery
Instructions:
Prepare the Vehicles:
Park the vehicle with the dead battery (BMW X3 F25) and the assisting vehicle (with the fully charged battery) facing each other, but not touching.
Ensure both vehicles are turned off and the parking brakes are engaged.
Locate Batteries:
Open the hoods of both vehicles and locate the batteries. In the BMW X3 F25, the battery is typically located in the engine bay, while the assisting vehicle’s battery is also in the engine bay.
Inspect Batteries and Connections:
Check the batteries for any signs of damage or corrosion. Ensure the battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion.
If there is corrosion on the terminals, clean them using a wire brush or terminal cleaner before proceeding.
Connect Jumper Cables:
Take the jumper cables and connect one red (positive) clamp to the positive terminal (+) of the dead battery.
Connect the other red (positive) clamp to the positive terminal (+) of the assisting vehicle’s battery.
Connect one black (negative) clamp to the negative terminal (-) of the assisting vehicle’s battery.
IMPORTANT: Instead of connecting the remaining black (negative) clamp directly to the negative terminal of the dead battery, find an unpainted metal surface under the hood of the BMW X3 F25 away from the battery. This could be a bolt or metal bracket. This helps prevent sparking near the battery, which can cause explosions.
Start the Assisting Vehicle:
Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and let it idle for a few minutes. This allows the battery to charge the dead battery.
Attempt to Start the BMW X3 F25:
After a few minutes, attempt to start the engine of the BMW X3 F25 with the dead battery.
If the engine starts successfully, leave it running and carefully disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order of how they were connected.
Disconnect Jumper Cables:
Remove the black (negative) clamp from the unpainted metal surface in the engine bay of the BMW X3 F25.
Remove the black (negative) clamp from the negative terminal of the assisting vehicle’s battery.
Remove the red (positive) clamp from the positive terminal of the assisting vehicle’s battery.
Finally, remove the red (positive) clamp from the positive terminal of the dead battery.
Close the Hoods and Let the Engine Run:
Close the hoods of both vehicles securely.
Let the engine of the BMW X3 F25 run for at least 15 minutes to allow the alternator to recharge the battery.
Monitor Electrical Systems:
While the engine is running, monitor the electrical systems of the BMW X3 F25 to ensure they are functioning properly.
Consider Getting the Battery Checked:
