2011-2017 BMW X3 F25 Interior Tail Light Replacement DIY
About this video
Replacing the interior tail light in a 2011-2017 BMW X3 F25 is a relatively simple process. Here’s a general guide on how to do it:
Tools/Items Needed:
Replacement interior tail light assembly
Flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool
Instructions:
Locate the Interior Tail Light:
The interior tail light assembly is typically located on the inside of the tailgate or rear cargo area, depending on your BMW X3 F25 model.
Access the Tail Light Assembly:
Open the tailgate or rear cargo area to access the interior tail light assembly.
Remove the Tailgate Trim Panel (if necessary):
In some BMW X3 F25 models, the interior tail light assembly may be covered by a trim panel on the tailgate. Use a flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool to carefully pry off the trim panel, starting at one edge and working your way around.
Locate the Tail Light Bulb Holder:
Once the trim panel is removed (if applicable), you’ll see the tail light bulb holder inside the tailgate or rear cargo area. It’s usually a plastic housing with wires connected to it.
Disconnect the Wiring Harness:
Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the tail light bulb holder. Depending on the design, you may need to press a tab or squeeze a connector to release it.
Remove the Tail Light Bulb Holder:
Once the wiring harness is disconnected, you can remove the tail light bulb holder from the tailgate or rear cargo area. It may be held in place by clips or screws.
Replace the Tail Light Bulb (if necessary):
If you’re only replacing a burnt-out bulb, twist the bulb holder counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly. Replace the old bulb with a new one of the same type and wattage, then reinsert the bulb holder into the assembly and twist it clockwise to secure it.
Install the New Tail Light Assembly:
If you’re replacing the entire interior tail light assembly, simply insert the new assembly into the opening in the tailgate or rear cargo area. Ensure it’s aligned correctly and securely in place.
Reconnect the Wiring Harness:
Reconnect the wiring harness to the new tail light bulb holder. Press the connector until it clicks into place to ensure a secure connection.
Replace the Tailgate Trim Panel (if removed):
If you removed a trim panel to access the tail light assembly, reattach the trim panel to the tailgate using the same clips or fasteners.
Test the Tail Lights:
Close the tailgate or rear cargo area and test the new interior tail light to ensure it functions properly when the vehicle’s lights are turned on.
Replacing the interior tail light in your BMW X3 F25 helps maintain visibility and safety on the road. If you’re unsure about any steps or encounter difficulties during the process, consider consulting a professional mechanic or referring to your vehicle’s service manual for more specific instructions.
