Bad Turn Signal Wiper Switch Symptoms Explained by an ASE Certified Mechanic
About this video
SYMPTOMS OF A BAD MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
Turn signals that do not work at all, work only on one side, or only work while you hold the lever
Turn signal that does not cancel after you complete a turn
High beams that will not turn on or get stuck on
Flash to pass feature not working
Wipers stuck on one speed, not shutting off, or not working at all
Windshield washer not spraying when you pull the lever
Headlights or parking lights flickering or cutting out when you move the stalk
Functions that come and go when you wiggle the lever
RELATED FAULT CODES AND WARNING LIGHTS
A worn multifunction switch usually does not turn on the check engine light. On many newer vehicles the switch works together with the steering column control module (SCCM) and the body control module, so a scan tool may show body B codes or communication U codes stored for the turn signal, wiper, or headlight circuits. Fast flashing turn signals are usually a bulb issue, but a faulty switch can cause similar behavior.
