About this video

In this video, we demonstrate how to safely jump start a 2017 BMW 740 7-Series. Knowing the correct procedure for jump starting your vehicle ensures you can get back on the road quickly and safely in the event of a dead battery.

Why is it needed?
A dead battery can leave you stranded, but knowing how to jump start your BMW can save you time and hassle. Properly jump starting your vehicle prevents potential damage to the electrical system and ensures the engine starts smoothly.

Common reasons for a dead battery:

Leaving lights or accessories on when the engine is off.
Old or weak battery.
Extreme temperatures affecting battery performance.
Electrical system issues.
Technical Terms and Process:

Jump Starting: The process of using an external power source to start a vehicle with a dead battery.
Jumper Cables: Heavy-duty cables used to connect the dead battery to an external power source.
Battery Terminals: The positive (+) and negative (-) connection points on the battery.
Steps to Jump Start a BMW 7-Series:

Gather Equipment: You will need a set of jumper cables and a working vehicle with a fully charged battery.
Locate the Battery: On a 2017 BMW 740 7-Series, the battery is located in the trunk. However, the vehicle has jump start terminals under the hood for convenience.
Position the Vehicles: Park the working vehicle close to the BMW but do not let the vehicles touch.
Connect Jumper Cables:
Red Cable to BMW Positive Terminal: Connect one end of the red (positive) jumper cable to the positive terminal on the BMW.
Red Cable to Donor Vehicle Positive Terminal: Connect the other end of the red cable to the positive terminal on the donor vehicle.
Black Cable to Donor Vehicle Negative Terminal: Connect one end of the black (negative) jumper cable to the negative terminal on the donor vehicle.
Black Cable to BMW Ground Point: Connect the other end of the black cable to an unpainted metal surface on the BMW’s engine block or a designated ground point.
Start the Donor Vehicle: Start the engine of the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
Start the BMW: Attempt to start the BMW. If it does not start immediately, wait a few more minutes and try again.
Disconnect Jumper Cables: Once the BMW is running, disconnect the jumper cables in reverse order:
Remove the black cable from the BMW ground point.
Remove the black cable from the donor vehicle negative terminal.
Remove the red cable from the donor vehicle positive terminal.
Remove the red cable from the BMW positive terminal.
Let the BMW Run: Allow the BMW to run for at least 15-20 minutes to charge the battery.
Using these steps, we provide a detailed, step-by-step guide for safely jump starting your BMW 740 7-Series. This tutorial ensures you can get your vehicle running again quickly and safely. Learn how to jump start your BMW with our comprehensive guide.
