Ford Escape TPMS Reset and Relearn (2013-2019)
About this video
Filled your tires and the tire pressure light is still on? In this video, an ASE certified mechanic shows you how to reset the TPMS on a 2013-2019 Ford Escape (third generation, including the 2017 facelift), how the relearn works, and how to tell a low tire from a bad sensor.
WHAT WE COVER
Checking and setting the correct tire pressure from the door jamb placard
How the Ford Escape direct TPMS system reads each wheel
Performing the TPMS relearn procedure
When you need a TPMS tool to wake up the sensors
What to do after a tire rotation, new tires, or new sensors
SYMPTOMS YOU MAY NOTICE
Solid tire pressure light, which usually means one or more tires are low
Tire pressure light that flashes for about a minute at startup and then stays on, which points to a sensor or system fault
Tire Pressure Low or Tire Pressure Monitor Fault message
Tire Pressure Sensor Fault message after a tire change
Light that comes on in cold mornings and goes off as the day warms up
RELATED FAULT CODES
A dead sensor battery, a damaged sensor, or a sensor that was never relearned can store TPMS sensor fault codes in the body control module. A scan tool with TPMS functions can show which wheel is the problem.
RELATED MODELS
The Ford Kuga and Lincoln MKC (2015-2019) share this platform and use a very similar TPMS relearn, and the same Ford relearn process applies to many Fords of the same era, including the Focus, Fusion, Edge, and Explorer.
Quick tip: set your tires cold, before driving. Pressures read several PSI higher once the tires warm up.
