About this video

In this step-by-step guide, you’ll learn how to replace the exterior side mirror on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. This tutorial is applicable to all 2007-2013 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models built on the GMT900 platform. A damaged or malfunctioning side mirror can significantly impair visibility and increase the risk of accidents, making timely replacement essential for your safety.

Key Steps:

Gather Necessary Tools: You will need a socket wrench set, a flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool, and the new exterior side mirror.
Disconnect the Battery: For safety, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical shorts or issues while working.
Remove the Door Panel (if necessary): Depending on your model, you may need to remove the interior door panel to access the mirror wiring. Use a flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool to carefully detach the panel clips and bolts.
Disconnect the Wiring Harness: Once the door panel is removed, locate the mirror’s wiring harness and carefully disconnect it.
Remove the Old Side Mirror: From the exterior, remove the bolts or screws securing the mirror to the door using a socket wrench. Gently pull the mirror away from the door and disconnect it from the wiring harness (if applicable).
Install the New Side Mirror: Connect the new mirror to the wiring harness (if equipped), align it with the mounting holes, and secure it using the bolts or screws.
Reattach the Door Panel (if removed): If you removed the door panel, reattach it by aligning it with the clips and securing it with bolts.
Reconnect the Battery and Test: Reconnect the negative battery terminal and test the new mirror’s functionality, including any power adjustments and turn signal features.
Common Symptoms Indicating Side Mirror Replacement:

Cracked or shattered mirror glass, impairing visibility.
Malfunctioning power adjustments, leading to difficulty positioning the mirror.
Broken mounting points or loose mirror assembly.
Inoperable integrated turn signal indicators.
