Jeep Renegade AC Smells or Weak Airflow? Cabin Air Filter Fix (DIY)

Home / Jeep Renegade AC Smells or Weak Airflow? Cabin Air Filter Fix (DIY)
Youtube video

About this video

Weak airflow or a musty smell from your vents? Your cabin air filter is probably overdue. In this video we walk you through the complete cabin air filter replacement on your Jeep Renegade — step by step — so you can restore fresh airflow, improve your AC and heat performance, and do it yourself in a few minutes.

🔧 WHAT WE COVER
– Locating the cabin air filter behind the glovebox
– Releasing the glovebox / access panel to reach the filter
– Removing the old filter and noting the airflow direction
– Installing the new filter facing the correct way
– Reassembling everything so it seats clean with no rattles

🚙 WHICH JEEP RENEGADE THIS APPLIES TO
This was filmed on a Jeep Renegade (BU) and applies across the 2015 through 2023 model years. The Renegade received a facelift for the 2019 model year, but the cabin air filter location and replacement procedure are essentially unchanged, so this works the same for both pre-facelift (2015–2018) and facelift (2019–2023) Renegades.

🔁 RELATED / SISTER MODEL (WIDER HELP)
The Jeep Renegade shares its FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform with the Fiat 500X, which is built alongside it. Because the two share so much of the same interior and HVAC design, the cabin air filter is in a very similar spot and the procedure is closely related, making this a helpful reference for Fiat 500X owners as well. Always confirm the correct filter for your specific vehicle before installing.

💡 QUICK TIP
Watch the airflow arrow on the edge of the filter — installing it backwards is the most common mistake and hurts airflow. Most cabin filters should be replaced roughly every 12,000–15,000 miles, or sooner if you drive in dusty conditions or notice a smell, so it’s worth checking any time you’re already under the dash.
