SYMPTOMS YOU MAY NOTICE
No crank and no click when you press the start button
A single loud click or rapid clicking from the engine bay
Engine cranks but will not fire up
Dashboard lights flickering or all warning lights coming on at once
Messages such as Key Fob Not Detected, Vehicle Not in Park, or Service Stop/Start System

COMMON CAUSES WE COVER
Dead or weak 12 volt battery, the number one cause
Corroded battery terminals or a loose ground connection
Failed starter motor or starter relay
Dead key fob battery or immobilizer and security lockout
Fuel delivery problems and a failed crankshaft position sensor
Blown fuses and shifter or clutch safety switch issues

RELATED FAULT CODES AND WARNING LIGHTS
Low voltage and starter circuit codes such as P0562, P0615, P0616, and P0617, plus communication U codes that often appear when battery voltage drops. You may also see the red battery light, the check engine light, or the key and lock security icon on the instrument cluster.

This applies to all engines offered in the Renegade, including the 1.4L MultiAir Turbo, the 2.4L Tigershark, and the 1.3L Turbo. The Renegade shares its platform with the Fiat 500X, so most of these troubleshooting steps apply to the 500X as well, and many also carry over to the Jeep Compass.
