Mercedes Calibration of Vehicle Level Was Not Performed? How to Fix It Yourself
About this video
Is your Mercedes showing an AIRMATIC warning with the code calibration of vehicle level was not performed or level calibration not successful? In this video, an ASE certified mechanic shows how to perform a Mercedes AIRMATIC ride height level calibration using the YOUCANIC UCAN-II-D scanner, so you can clear the fault and set the correct ride height at home instead of paying the dealer.
We demonstrate on a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL450, part of the X166 generation sold as the GL from 2013-2016 and updated and renamed the GLS for 2017-2019. The GL shares its platform with the ML and GLE W166, so the procedure is nearly identical on those models.
SAFETY FIRST
An air suspension vehicle can drop suddenly if a line is opened, a valve is commanded, or the system vents. Never put any part of your body under the vehicle without jack stands in place, turn on jack mode or disable the AIRMATIC system before lifting where the vehicle offers it, and keep hands clear of the wheel wells while the suspension is moving.
WHEN AIRMATIC LEVEL CALIBRATION IS NEEDED
After replacing an air strut, air spring, or air shock
After replacing a ride height level sensor or its linkage
After replacing the AIRMATIC control module
After suspension, subframe, or alignment work
When the vehicle sits uneven side to side or front to rear
When the code calibration of vehicle level was not performed or level calibration not carried out successfully is stored
WHAT WE COVER
Preparing the vehicle: level ground, correct tire pressure, doors closed, and the engine running
Connecting the UCAN-II-D and finding the AIRMATIC air suspension control module
Reading AIRMATIC fault codes and live data for each level sensor
Measuring the ride height at each wheel from the center of the wheel to the fender edge
Entering the measured values and saving the level calibration
Why calibration fails when a level sensor reads out of range, and what to check first
Clearing the codes and confirming the ride height and the warning message are gone
SYMPTOMS YOU MAY NOTICE
AIRMATIC Visit Workshop or AIRMATIC Malfunction message on the instrument cluster
Vehicle sitting lower or higher on one corner
Car leaning to one side or nose sitting too high or too low
Vehicle rising to the highest level or not lowering at speed
Car sitting low after being parked overnight
Compressor running more often than normal
Harsh or bouncy ride
COMMON RELATED FAULT CODES
C1525 level calibration not carried out or not successful
C1121, C1122, and C1123 AIRMATIC acceleration sensor faults
C1132, C1133, and C1135 AIRMATIC level sensor faults
C155664 system pressure sensor implausible signal
C157200 correction time while filling too long
C156C00 compressed air distribution leaking
Level sensor out of range and control module not coded codes on newer models
DOES THIS APPLY TO MY MERCEDES
AIRMATIC air suspension is used on many Mercedes-Benz models, including the GL and GLS X166 (2013-2019) and X164 (2007-2012), the ML and GLE W166 (2012-2019) and W164 (2006-2011), the S Class W220 (2000-2006), W221 (2007-2013), and W222 (2014-2020), the E Class W211 (2003-2009) and W212 (2010-2016), the CLS, and newer S Class, E Class, GLE, GLS, and EQS models. The menus and measuring steps vary by model, but the calibration process and the reasons it fails are the same.
The UCAN-II-D scanner shown in this video is made by YOUCANIC.
