Nissan Altima Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (2013-2018)

Home / Nissan Altima Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (2013-2018)
⏱ 6:18 📅 Oct 21, 2026 ▶ Watch on YouTube

About this video

ABS light on with the traction control and slip lights right behind it? An ASE certified mechanic shows how to pin down which wheel speed sensor is at fault and replace the front sensor, instead of guessing and buying an ABS module you do not need.

SAFETY FIRST
Support the vehicle on jack stands on level ground, chock the wheels, and never work under a car held only by a jack. Disconnect the battery before unplugging sensors if the service information calls for it, and keep hands clear of the rotor and hub.

WHAT WE COVER
How an ABS wheel speed sensor works and what the tone ring does
Reading ABS codes with a bidirectional scan tool, because a basic code reader will not see them
Comparing live wheel speed data from all four wheels to find the dead sensor
Checking the sensor and harness for chafed wires, a corroded connector, or a broken clip
Inspecting the tone ring for rust, cracks, or packed debris, which fails more often than people expect
Removing the sensor bolt without snapping the sensor off in the knuckle
What to do when the sensor is seized in the hub bore
Installing the new sensor, routing the harness correctly, and clearing codes
Road testing to confirm the ABS and traction control lights stay off

SYMPTOMS YOU MAY NOTICE
ABS light, traction control light, or slip indicator on, often all three together
Speedometer dropping out or reading erratically at low speed
ABS pulsing or kicking in at low speed when you brake normally
Cruise control that will not set or drops out while driving
Hill start assist or brake assist messages on the cluster
Traction control cutting power on dry pavement
Symptoms that appear after a wheel bearing, hub, or brake job

RELATED FAULT CODES
Wheel speed sensor and ABS codes such as C1101, C1102, C1103, C1104 for the individual sensors, C1105 through C1108 for abnormal sensor signals, C1109 for low battery voltage to the ABS module, C1115 for an abnormal signal, and C1130 for an engine signal fault. You may also see generic P0500 for the vehicle speed sensor and communication U codes like U0121 for lost communication with the ABS module.

DOES THIS APPLY TO MY CAR
Recorded on a 2018 Nissan Altima, fifth generation L33, sold 2013-2018 in the US including the 2016-2018 facelift. The same sensor location and test method apply to 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 Altima 2.5 and 3.5 models. The Altima is sold as the Nissan Teana in many markets, and the identical approach works on the Nissan Maxima, Murano, Rogue, Sentra, Pathfinder, Versa, Frontier, and Infiniti QX60 and Q50. The diagnostic process applies to every make, from Toyota and Honda to Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.
