Nissan Altima Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (2013-2018)
About this video
ABS light on and the code points to a rear wheel? An ASE certified mechanic shows how to confirm the fault with live data before you buy anything, then replaces the rear wheel speed sensor and clears the codes the right way.
SAFETY FIRST
Chock the front wheels, lift on the factory jack points, and support the car on jack stands before anything goes under it. Keep the harness away from the exhaust and suspension travel path when you route the new sensor.
WHAT WE COVER
Why a rear sensor fault often shows up as ABS, traction control, and slip lights at the same time
Pulling ABS module codes with a bidirectional scan tool rather than a basic reader
Watching all four wheel speed readings in live data to confirm which sensor is dead
Checking the sensor harness where it flexes near the trailing arm and the body grommet
Inspecting the tone ring and hub for rust and debris
Removing a seized rear sensor from the hub bore without breaking it
Installing the new sensor, seating it fully, and torquing the bolt
Clearing codes and road testing to confirm the repair
SYMPTOMS YOU MAY NOTICE
ABS, traction control, and slip lights on together
Speedometer cutting out or jumping around
ABS activating at low speed on dry pavement
Cruise control disabled or dropping out
Rear wheel locking briefly under hard braking
Warning lights that appear after a rear brake or wheel bearing job
Lights that come and go with bumps, which usually means a chafed wire
RELATED FAULT CODES
Rear wheel sensor codes such as C1101 and C1102, the matching abnormal signal codes C1105 and C1106, C1109 for ABS module voltage, C1115 for an abnormal sensor signal, C1130 for an engine signal fault, plus P0500 and communication codes like U0121 for lost communication with the ABS module.
