Transmission Adapted Value Reset: Fix Harsh Shifting Without New Parts

About this video

An ASE certified mechanic performs a transmission adapted value reset, also called a transmission relearn or quick learn, using a bidirectional scan tool on a 2015-2023 Jeep Renegade (first generation BU, including the 2019 facelift). Modern automatic transmissions learn your driving habits and clutch wear over time. When those learned values drift, or after a fluid change, valve body, solenoid, or transmission service, the shifts get harsh, delayed, or flare. Resetting the adaptations and letting the transmission relearn often fixes it with no parts at all.

SYMPTOMS YOU MAY NOTICE Harsh, jerky, or banging shifts, especially 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 Delayed engagement when shifting into Drive or Reverse Flaring or slipping between gears, with engine RPM rising during the shift Hunting or hesitation between gears at low speed Shudder or clunk when coming to a stop or pulling away Transmission stuck in limp mode or limited to a few gears Service Transmission or Transmission Over Temperature message on the cluster Symptoms that appeared right after a transmission fluid change or battery replacement

WHAT WE COVER What adapted values and clutch volume index values actually are Why the transmission adapts to clutch wear, fluid condition, and driving style Connecting a bidirectional scan tool and finding the transmission module Running the adaptive value reset or quick learn function The relearn drive cycle afterward and what to expect during it When a reset will fix the problem and when it is hiding a real mechanical failure

RELATED FAULT CODES Shift and clutch performance codes such as P0700, P0715, P0730, P0731, P0732, P0733, P0734, P0750 through P0765 solenoid codes, P0868 line pressure, and P0871 or P0876 pressure switch codes. Codes should be read and addressed before or after any reset.

The 2015-2023 Renegade came with the 9 speed 948TE automatic on 2.4L Tigershark models, and the 6 speed C635 manual and dual dry clutch transmissions on other versions. The same 948TE nine speed is used in the Jeep Cherokee KL, Jeep Compass, Chrysler 200, Chrysler Pacifica, Ram ProMaster City, and the Fiat 500X, which is the Renegade platform sister, so this reset procedure applies to those vehicles as well. The concept of resetting transmission adaptive values also applies to most modern automatics from Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, Nissan, Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.

Popular searches this video answers: transmission adaptive value reset, transmission relearn procedure, how to reset transmission adaptations, harsh shifting after fluid change, 948TE 9 speed harsh shift, Jeep Renegade transmission shifting hard, transmission quick learn scan tool, clutch volume index reset.
