ABS Bleeding
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
ABS Bleeding is a scanner procedure that purges trapped air from inside the ABS hydraulic modulator — something impossible through conventional manual brake bleeding. The ABS modulator contains solenoid valves and an accumulator that trap fluid and air during normal operation. These internal valves are closed during manual bleeding, so air inside the modulator cannot escape. The scanner commands valves to open in specific sequences while you bleed fluid at each wheel, allowing trapped air to exit.
Required after replacing the ABS modulator, brake lines near the ABS unit, when the reservoir ran completely dry (air entered the modulator), and when conventional bleeding does not eliminate a soft pedal. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II walks through the process step-by-step — commanding solenoid valves, instructing which wheel to bleed, activating the pump motor, and confirming completion. Use fresh DOT-specified fluid and never let the reservoir run dry during the procedure.
