How ThinkCar Handles FCA SGW
The ThinkScan 689BT uses AutoAuth, the FCA-approved authentication system for third-party scanner access to Security Gateway Module-equipped vehicles (2018+ RAM, Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo). AutoAuth is a subscription-based service that routes diagnostic access through FCA’s own servers, which means you have to pay an annual fee and get permission from the manufacturer to gain full access to the car that you own.
How YOUCANIC Handles FCA SGW
We chose to use a different approach. The UCAN-II Pro promotes the use of a 12+8-pin adapter, a physical hardware solution that bypasses the SGM without routing through FCA’s authentication servers or requiring an account or membership fee. The adapter is included in the box, at no additional cost.
The Security Gateway Module was introduced by Stellantis (FCA) in 2018 to restrict third-party diagnostic tool access to their vehicles, hidden behind the argument of “protection against hacking.” AutoAuth is FCA’s approved workaround that keeps the manufacturer in control of who can access your own vehicle’s systems. We disagree with that model.

ThinkCar’s ThinkScan 689BT offers online ECU coding for VAG vehicles (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat), which includes the ability to flash modules, unlock hidden features, reset adaptive data, and perform OEM-style coding that goes beyond what most aftermarket scanners support. It can also match replaced components on Ford vehicles and perform personalization functions like enabling auto side-mirror folding, disabling auto start-stop, and customizing dash settings on select models.
The UCAN-II scanner supports injector coding after replacement, battery coding for adaptive charging management, TPMS sensor programming, and select key functions. Online coding and SCN coding for deep European module programming are not supported on the UCAN-II Pro as of 2026.
