📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
CMP (Camshaft Position) identifies which cylinder is on compression for sequential injection and VVT control. The ECU continuously compares CMP to CKP signals to verify cam phaser position. DTCs: P0340 (Circuit), P0345 (Bank 2), P0016-P0019 (Crank-Cam Correlation — often indicates stretched timing chain or worn cam phaser rather than sensor failure).
A common cause of intermittent CMP failures is oil contamination from leaking valve cover gaskets — oil migrates down the wiring harness into the connector.
Synonyms:
Camshaft Position, Cam Sensor
