DOIP
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
DOIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol, ISO 13400) transmits diagnostic data over Ethernet and TCP/IP networks instead of traditional CAN. As vehicles add ADAS, infotainment, and OTA updates, manufacturers are implementing Ethernet networks at 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps — vastly faster than CAN’s 500 kbps. DOIP allows scanners to communicate with Ethernet-connected modules through a gateway module linking the Ethernet backbone to the OBD2 port.
DOIP is found on newer luxury vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, JLR) and expanding to mainstream brands. Scanners must support DOIP to fully communicate with these vehicles — CAN-only scanners may have limited functionality. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II supports modern protocols including DOIP. As the industry transitions to software-defined vehicles with Ethernet backbones, DOIP capability will become as essential as CAN support is today.
