PCV Valve

PCV Valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve)
The PCV valve is a simple but critical one-way valve that manages pressure inside the engine’s crankcase by routing blow-by gases — combustion gases that slip past the piston rings — back into the intake manifold to be burned rather than vented to atmosphere. It’s one of the most overlooked maintenance items on any vehicle despite being inexpensive and easy to replace. A clogged or stuck PCV valve causes pressure to build up inside the crankcase, which forces oil past seals and gaskets creating leaks, and also introduces unmetered air into the intake that confuses the MAF sensor and disrupts the fuel mixture. Common symptoms include oil leaks from valve cover gaskets or the rear main seal, rough idle, increased oil consumption, a whistling or hissing noise from the engine, sludge buildup in the oil, and a check engine light with lean or MAF-related codes.
