Smart VIN (also called Auto VIN, VIN Detection, or Auto Identify) is a scanner feature that automatically reads the vehicle’s VIN through the OBD2 port and uses it to configure all diagnostic functions specifically for that exact vehicle. Instead of manually selecting the manufacturer, model year, engine type, and equipment level from menu after menu, Smart VIN reads the VIN, decodes it, and instantly sets up the scanner with the correct vehicle profile — including which control modules are installed, which live data PIDs are available, which service functions are supported, and which DTC definitions apply.

Smart VIN dramatically speeds up the diagnostic process and eliminates configuration errors. Without it, selecting the wrong engine option or equipment level can result in missing modules during Auto Scan, incorrect code definitions, or unavailable service functions. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II Smart VIN feature reads the VIN in seconds and configures the entire diagnostic session automatically. In rare cases where VIN auto-detection fails (aftermarket ECU, VIN not programmed, or communication error), you can manually enter the VIN or select the vehicle manually from the menu.
