Jeep Wrangler 1997-2006

1997–2006
Overview

In its TJ generation, produced from 1997 to 2006, the Jeep Wrangler continued the iconic off-road legend that retained its rugged and timeless design. The TJ was purpose-built for off-roading, featuring a traditional body-on-frame construction and solid front and rear axles. It maintained its classic round headlights and seven-slot grille while improving on-road comfort and interior quality compared to its predecessor. The TJ was available in various body styles, including a two-door convertible with a removable soft or hardtop and a more extended wheelbase Unlimited variant, offering additional rear-seat space and cargo capacity.

Underneath, the TJ utilized coil spring suspension for better ride quality than older models' leaf spring setups. This allowed for improved articulation and off-road capability while still delivering a comfortable on-road ride. Four-wheel-drive systems like Command-Trac and Rock-Trac and manual and automatic transmissions catered to different driving preferences. While the Wrangler TJ remained true to its off-road roots, it also introduced modern features like air conditioning and stereo systems, making it more suitable for daily driving. Its legendary reputation for conquering challenging terrain made it a beloved choice among off-road enthusiasts and adventurers.
