BSM (Blind Spot Monitoring) uses radar or ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper or quarter panels to detect vehicles in the driver’s blind spots. A warning indicator illuminates in the side mirror, escalating if the turn signal is activated while a vehicle is detected. BSM typically operates above 15-20 MPH.

BSM sensor faults are commonly caused by rear bumper damage, sensor obstruction from mud or ice, and wiring damage from rear impacts. After bumper replacement, sensor calibration should be verified.
