DLC
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
The DLC (Data Link Connector) is the standardized 16-pin port for connecting your OBD2 scanner, located under the dashboard near the steering column per federal regulations. It follows SAE J1962 specifications with a trapezoidal shape preventing incorrect insertion. Key pins: pin 16 (battery positive, always powered), pins 4/5 (ground), pins 6/14 (CAN High/Low), pin 2 (J1850+), pin 7 (K-Line), pin 10 (J1850-).
If your scanner will not power on, check the OBD2 fuse (labeled DLC, DIAG, or OBD). Remove any permanently installed plug-in devices before scanning as they can interfere. To test the DLC: verify 12V+ between pin 16 and pin 4, and on CAN vehicles measure ~60 ohms between pins 6 and 14 (termination resistance). Reading of 120 ohms means one termination resistor missing, 0 ohms indicates a CAN short.
