DPF
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) captures soot from diesel exhaust using a honeycomb substrate with alternating blocked channels. Exhaust passes through porous walls that trap soot. The filter periodically regenerates — the ECU raises exhaust temps to 1000-1200F to incinerate soot into ash. Active regeneration is ECU-initiated; passive occurs naturally during sustained highway driving.
DPF problems commonly occur with city/short-trip driving where exhaust never reaches regeneration temperature. Symptoms: DPF warning light, reduced power/limp mode, increased fuel consumption. DTCs: P2002 (Efficiency Below Threshold), P2463 (Soot Accumulation). The YOUCANIC UCAN-II can view soot loading, initiate forced regeneration, and reset counters after replacement. During forced regen, exhaust exceeds 1100F — perform outdoors, away from combustibles.
