EFB
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) is an improved version of the traditional flooded lead-acid battery designed for entry-level start-stop vehicles and moderate cycling applications. EFB batteries use enhanced plate construction, improved active material, and polyfleece liners on the plates that improve charge acceptance, cycling durability, and deep-discharge recovery compared to standard flooded batteries — while being less expensive than AGM batteries. EFB batteries are commonly used on European vehicles with basic start-stop systems that do not have regenerative braking.
When replacing an EFB battery, use an EFB or AGM replacement — never downgrade to a standard flooded battery on a start-stop vehicle. An AGM can replace an EFB (upgrade), but an EFB should not replace an AGM (downgrade). Battery Registration through the YOUCANIC UCAN-II should specify the correct battery type (EFB, AGM, or standard) so the intelligent charging system applies the appropriate charging voltage profile for the installed battery.
