EPB
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) uses electric motors integrated into rear brake calipers instead of traditional cables. These motors cannot be manually overridden — attempting to compress caliper pistons with a C-clamp without first retracting the EPB motor can damage the motor, strip gears, or crack the caliper. Scanner access is mandatory for rear brake pad replacement on EPB-equipped vehicles.
The YOUCANIC UCAN-II EPB function: retract calipers (open pistons for pad replacement), apply calipers (close after new pads installed), perform break-in procedure (some vehicles require apply/release cycles for new pads), and reset pad wear counters. Common vehicles requiring EPB scanner access: BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Land Rover, Volvo, and increasingly Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, and GM from 2018+.
