Forced Regeneration
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
Forced regeneration is scanner-commanded when automatic regeneration has failed to reduce soot loading (typically above 70-85%). The scanner commands the ECU to run a stationary cycle — RPM increases to 2000-3000, post-injection raises exhaust to 600-650C, running 20-40 minutes until soot drops to acceptable levels.
Safety precautions: perform outdoors (exhaust exceeds 600C, toxic gases produced), clear combustibles from exhaust area, no one near the outlet, flat surface with parking brake. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II monitors exhaust temperatures, soot percentage, and progress in real time. If forced regen fails, the DPF may be ash-loaded beyond capacity (ash accumulates over lifetime and cannot be regenerated — only physically cleaned or replaced).
