FPCM
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
The FPCM (Fuel Pump Control Module) is a dedicated electronic module that controls the electric fuel pump speed using PWM signals, varying pump output to match engine fuel demand. At idle and light load, the FPCM runs the pump at low speed (lower pressure and flow needed), reducing electrical load and pump noise. During WOT and high-load conditions, it commands full pump speed for maximum fuel delivery. This is more efficient than older systems where the pump ran at constant full speed with a mechanical regulator bypassing excess fuel back to the tank.
FPCM failures cause fuel delivery problems ranging from hard starting and hesitation to complete no-start. DTCs include P0230-P0233 (Fuel Pump Circuit codes) and manufacturer-specific FPCM communication codes. The FPCM is often mounted under the vehicle near the fuel tank, exposed to road debris and moisture — check for corrosion and water damage. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II may display commanded pump duty cycle and actual fuel pressure to diagnose whether the FPCM is commanding correctly.
