Low-Speed CAN
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
Low-Speed CAN (LS-CAN) operates at 125 kbps connecting body electronics — BCM, instrument cluster, climate control, seat modules, mirror modules, door modules, and infotainment. These systems do not require millisecond timing, so slower speed is sufficient with simpler wiring. LS-CAN uses fault-tolerant single-wire capability — if one wire is damaged, the system can operate in degraded mode using the remaining wire.
LS-CAN problems cause confusing symptoms that seem unrelated — windows not responding, flickering gauges, HVAC malfunctions, key fob not recognized. LS-CAN is typically not directly on OBD2 pins — your scanner communicates through a gateway module bridging the networks. When the YOUCANIC UCAN-II reads body module codes, it routes requests through this gateway. Diagnosing LS-CAN issues requires checking dedicated body harness connectors rather than the OBD2 port.
