The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor measures air mass entering the intake using a hot-wire or hot-film element. As airflow increases and cools the element, more current is required, producing a signal proportional to air mass. The MAF directly determines base fuel delivery — if it reads incorrectly, every fuel calculation is wrong. Contamination from oil vapors and oiled air filters is the most common cause of MAF problems.

DTCs: P0100-P0104 (Circuit), P0171/P0174 (Lean from under-reporting). Clean with dedicated MAF cleaner only — never touch the sensing element. After cleaning or replacement, reset fuel trims through the YOUCANIC UCAN-II.
