OCS

📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary

OCS (Occupant Classification System), also called ODS (Occupant Detection System), uses a pressure sensor mat in the passenger seat cushion (sometimes with seatbelt buckle sensor) to detect occupancy and estimate weight. Based on this data, the SRS module enables the passenger airbag at full force, deploys at reduced force (small adult), or suppresses it entirely (child or empty seat). The passenger airbag status displays on the dashboard as an Airbag Off indicator when suppressed.

OCS initialization is required after replacing the passenger seat, seat cushion/cover, sensor mat, or SRS module. Without initialization, the system may incorrectly classify occupants — suppressing the airbag for an adult or deploying it for a child seat. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II ODS Initialization calibrates the sensor mat’s zero-load baseline with the seat empty. After calibration, a verification test confirms correct detection. OCS malfunction triggers SRS warning light and B0071-B0081 codes.
