Yaw Rate Sensor
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
The yaw rate sensor measures the vehicle’s rotation rate around its vertical axis — how quickly the vehicle is turning. Combined with the lateral acceleration sensor and wheel speed sensors, it provides the ESC system with real-time vehicle dynamics data. The ESC compares yaw rate (actual rotation) with the expected rotation calculated from steering angle and vehicle speed to detect oversteer, understeer, and loss of control conditions.
Yaw rate sensor calibration (G Sensor Learn) is required after sensor replacement, ESC module replacement, collision repair affecting mounting, and on some vehicles after battery replacement. Must be performed on a flat, level surface with the engine running, steering centered, and no passengers. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II G Sensor Learn function stores the current reading as the zero-rotation baseline. Incorrect calibration causes ESC to activate during normal driving.
