How to Open a Subaru Hood
Need to open your hood to check the brake, power steering, engine, and coolant fluid level of your Subaru? Learn how to open the hood by following the procedures below.

Procedure
- Set the parking brake and ensure the gear selector is in Park. Turn off the engine.
- Pull the hood release lever under the dashboard until you hear the hood pop open. If the hood doesn’t pop up, the cable may be damaged or misaligned.
- Go to the front of the vehicle. Slide your hand under the hood and press the lever to release the hood.
- Lift the hood and secure it with the hood prop rod.
Opening the hood on a Subaru takes only a few minutes.
If the hood does not pop up, check to see if the cable under the hood has come off the release lever.
