What Is Power Balance Test and Does the YOUCANIC Scanner Support It?

The Power Balance Test (also called cylinder contribution test) measures how much each cylinder contributes to overall engine output by selectively disabling one cylinder at a time.

How It Works

The scanner commands the ECU to disable fuel delivery or ignition to one cylinder at a time while monitoring RPM drop. A cylinder that produces a smaller RPM drop than others is underperforming.

What It Helps Diagnose

• Weak or dead cylinders
• Faulty fuel injectors
• Compression issues
• Ignition coil failures
• Intermittent misfires that are hard to pinpoint
