Why Can’t My Scanner Connect to My Phone Hotspot?

Most diagnostic scanners require a 2.4 GHz WiFi connection. If your phone hotspot defaults to 5 GHz, the scanner will not detect it.

Fix for iPhone

1. Go to Settings → Personal Hotspot
2. Turn on Allow Others to Join
3. Enable Maximize Compatibility

This switches your hotspot to 2.4 GHz, allowing the scanner to connect.

Fix for Android

In your hotspot settings, change the band from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz or select Auto.
