This is a step-by-step procedure to replace the engine air filter of the Mercedes Benz SL500, S500, and other models equipped with the V8 M113 installed on many models from 1998-2006. Learn how to fix the problem by replacing your Mercedes-Benz engine air filter.
What you will need
- Air filter
- Torx screwdriver
Procedure
- Open the hood. Pull the hood release under the dashboard and go to the front of the vehicle. Then unlock the hood latch and pull the hood up.
- Remove the front cover of the engine. Pull the front cover up to unlock the tabs on it and remove it by moving it backward.
- Remove the hose connected to the air filter by simply pulling it out to where it is attached. There will be two hoses that need to be removed.
- Remove the air filter housing out of the engine by pulling it up.
- Once the air filter housing is removed, turn the housing on the opposite side and locate the T25 screws on the air filter housing.
- Remove the T25 screws on both sides of the air filter housing. Use a Torx screwdriver to remove them; a total of 8 T25 screws must be removed.
- Press on the center housing of the air filter and pull the cover to where the air filter lies.
- Remove the old air filter by pulling it out and installing the new one by pushing it into its designed place.
- Put the air filter back into the housing and reinstall the T25 screws.
- Align the air filter housing to the rubber grommets on the engine and push the housing in to lock it to its place.
- Reinstall the hose connected to the air filter.
- Slide the front cover in and push it to lock on the engine.
