BRT
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
BRT (Battery Registration) informs the vehicle’s power management system that a new battery has been installed. Vehicles with intelligent charging (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Porsche, and increasingly others) monitor battery age, capacity, and charge cycles to adjust alternator output. If you install a new battery without BRT, the system continues overcharging based on the old battery’s profile, causing premature failure, electrolyte boiling, and shortened life.
The YOUCANIC UCAN-II BRT function: enter battery type (AGM, EFB, lead-acid), capacity (Ah), and sometimes OEM part number. The scanner resets the state-of-health counter to 100%, clears charge cycles, and adjusts charging strategy. Symptoms of unregistered battery: repeated drain, start-stop not working, excessive charging voltage (above 14.8V), and charging system warnings. Always perform BRT immediately after installing a new battery on vehicles with intelligent charging.
