EOBD
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
EOBD (European On-Board Diagnostics) is the European Union’s equivalent of the American OBD-II standard, mandated on gasoline vehicles from 2001 and diesel vehicles from 2003. EOBD follows the same ISO 15031 standard as OBD-II, using the same 16-pin DLC connector, same DTC format, same standardized PIDs, and same communication protocols. A standard OBD2 scanner designed for US vehicles works on EOBD-compliant European vehicles for basic code reading, live data, and readiness monitor access.
Minor differences between EOBD and OBD-II include some emission threshold values, specific readiness monitor requirements, and the inclusion of additional European-specific requirements. For DIYers importing or purchasing European-market vehicles, EOBD compliance means the YOUCANIC UCAN-II’s standard OBD2 functions work normally, though manufacturer-specific enhanced diagnostics still require the scanner to support that specific brand’s enhanced protocols.
