Limit

« Back to Glossary

📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary

The Limit function on a diagnostic scanner provides access to configurable operational restrictions stored in the vehicle’s ECU — most commonly a programmable top speed limiter. This is separate from the engine’s rev limiter (which protects the engine from over-revving) and is a software-imposed setting that can sometimes be adjusted within manufacturer-allowed parameters. Speed limiters are used on fleet vehicles where companies restrict driver speed, on vehicles with teen driver features, and in markets with configurable speed regulations.

The YOUCANIC UCAN-II Limit function may allow viewing and adjusting the speed limiter within the vehicle’s allowable range, configuring speed warning chimes, and on some vehicles managing Teen Driver or MyKey features that restrict speed and enable safety features for secondary key holders. Not all vehicles support programmable limiters, and the range varies by manufacturer. Common vehicles with configurable limits include Ford MyKey, GM Teen Driver, and various European models with dealer-level speed limiter settings.
