📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
The OBD Port (OBD-II Port) is the standardized 16-pin connector under the dashboard where you plug in your diagnostic scanner. Located within reach of the driver’s seat per federal regulation, it provides both power (pin 16 = 12V+, pins 4/5 = ground) and data communication. Key diagnostic pins: 6/14 for CAN, pin 7 for K-Line, pin 2 for J1850. The port is always powered with the key off.
If your scanner does not power on, check the OBD fuse (labeled DLC, DIAG, or OBD). Test with a multimeter: 12V+ between pin 16 and pin 4 confirms power; ~60 ohms between pins 6 and 14 confirms CAN Bus integrity. Remove plug-in devices before scanning as they can interfere.
