Regen Braking

📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
Regenerative braking converts kinetic energy into electrical energy during deceleration in hybrid and electric vehicles. The electric motor switches to generator mode, producing electricity that charges the battery while creating resistance that slows the vehicle. This extends range by 10-30% and dramatically reduces brake pad wear (pads can last 100,000+ miles).
Regen intensity is adjustable on most EVs, with some offering one-pedal driving. Effectiveness decreases when the battery is full or in extreme cold. Reduced pad use can cause rotor surface corrosion from infrequent friction braking, causing noise on first stops.
