Service Function
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
Service Functions are scanner capabilities that perform maintenance, calibration, and configuration tasks required after vehicle service or component replacement. Unlike reading codes (diagnostic), Service Functions actively interact with modules to reset counters, recalibrate systems, and initialize new components. Common examples: oil reset, battery registration (BRT), EPB retraction for brake pads, SAS calibration after alignment, DPF regeneration, throttle body adaptation, TPMS relearn, injector coding, and transmission adaptation reset.
Service Functions are increasingly essential as vehicles become more electronic. You cannot replace rear brake pads on many vehicles without commanding EPB calipers to retract, installing a BMW battery without BRT causes premature failure, and cleaning a throttle body without adaptation reset causes high idle. The YOUCANIC UCAN-II provides a comprehensive Maintenance menu covering all major brands. When evaluating scanners, check which specific Service Functions it supports for your vehicle.
