How To Jump Start the Battery In Your Lexus
Are you having a hard time getting your Lexus to start? There could be an issue with your battery! Car batteries typically only last 3-5 years, and after that point, they can struggle to hold a charge. Learn how to fix the problem by jump-starting or charging your battery.
What you will need
- 12 Volt Smart Car Battery Charger or a helper car.
Using a Jump Starter
- Park the vehicle in a secure area. Use the emergency key in the key fob to unlock the driver’s door.
- Pull the hood release under the dashboard and open the hood.

- Locate the battery in the engine bay.
If necessary, remove the plastic cover to expose the battery.
- Connect the red clamp from the charger to the positive (+) battery terminal.

- Connect the black clamp from the charger to the frame, ground point, or engine bolt. Do not connect it directly to the negative battery terminal, this will create sparks and could start a fire.

- Plug the charger into a wall outlet.
- Monitor the battery temperature. Disconnect the charger if the battery starts to overheat.
Using a Helper Car
- Line up your helper car so that the jumper cables can reach both batteries. DO NOT LET THESE CARS TOUCH.
- Connect the positive (RED) jumper cable to your dead battery first, then connect the other end to the working battery.
- Find a ground point to connect your negative (black) jumper cable to in both engines.
- Start the cars and let your dead battery charge for a few minutes.
Do not leave the Lexus unattended while the battery is charging. Charging a dead Lexus battery can take several hours.
