2007–2012

Under the hood, the first-generation RDX was equipped with a 2.3-liter straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine generating 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, an unusual choice among Honda vehicles at the time. It employed Honda’s variable flow turbocharger to reduce turbo lag, enhancing performance. Fuel efficiency was rated at 19 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. The RDX featured Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and a five-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters available for some models. Inside, the RDX offered leather seating, a moonroof, automatic climate control, and a 7-speaker audio system with XM Satellite Radio. The optional “Technology Package” included Acura’s navigation system, a backup camera, real-time traffic monitoring, Zagat restaurant reviews, and a 10-speaker ELS Surround audio system. Safety features included an Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, six airbags, active head restraints, pre-tensioners, force limiters, and a 5-star rating in various crash tests by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a “Good” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, with a “Marginal” rating for roof strength.
