1999–2003

The second-generation Acura 3.2 TL was manufactured in Ohio alongside the Honda Accord and sold in Japan as the Honda Inspire and Honda Saber. Notable differences included the front grille design and the availability of a 2.5L Honda J-series V6 engine for the Japanese market. The 1999 Acura TL introduced cabin air filters as standard equipment and was initially offered with a CD-based navigation system. In the second year of production, the TL gained a 5-speed automatic transmission with SportShift, improving fuel economy and acceleration. However, this transmission faced reliability issues, leading to an extended warranty for U.S. models. Additional changes included the introduction of side-impact airbags for front passengers and switching from a CD database to a DVD-based navigation system in the 2000 model, expanding coverage to the entire continental United States.
