2004–2008

The third-generation Acura TL, released in October 2003, was developed in the United States and built in Ohio. It was based on the seventh-generation Honda Accord and received praise for its sharp design. This model was not sold in Japan, where the Honda Inspire was the entry-level luxury sedan below the Honda Legend. The TL was powered by a 3.2L V6 engine, initially producing 270 hp, later revised to 258 hp, paired with a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. Manual transmission models featured performance enhancements like Brembo 4-Piston front brake calipers and a limited-slip differential. A factory-sanctioned “tuner package” called the TL A-SPEC was offered, featuring suspension tuning by Makoto Tamamura, unique styling elements, and 18-inch wheels. The TL also introduced a 6-disc DVD-Audio system, Bluetooth HandsFree Link (HFL), and optional voice-activated navigation. The JDM Honda Inspire, based on the TL, featured Variable Cylinder Management for improved fuel economy. At the same time, the Saber was discontinued in favor of the Inspire, sold at different Honda dealerships. In 2004, the TL became Acura’s best-selling luxury sedan, with over 79,000 units sold that year.
