Tesla Model 3 Replace or Upgrade Rear Coil Springs

This guide provides steps on how to replace or upgrade the rear springs on a Tesla Model 3. This will also help you if you are looking to lower your Tesla.

Replacing the rear springs on a Tesla Model is very easy and each spring takes about thirty minutes to replace. 

What you need

Procedure

  1. Park Tesla on level ground. tesla parked

     

  2. Loosen the lug nuts for the rear wheels while the vehicle is still on the ground. Do not fully remove the lug nuts. 
  3. Jack up the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.jack up vehicle tesla

     

  4. Remove the rear wheel. tesla jacked up

     

  5. Remove the 10mm under the plastic cover under the lower control arm10mm bolt under the lower control arm

     

  6. Remove the plastic cover from under the control arm. remove plastic cover
  7. Remove the bolt that connects the rear shock absorber to the lower control arm. shock absorber bolt nut
  8. Place a floor jack below the lower control arm and support it slightly. 
  9. Remove the bolt that connects the lower control arm to the rear wheel knuckle. low control arm bolt to knuckle

     

  10. Slowly lower the floor jack that is under the control arm.  
  11. Remove the spring from under the vehicle. 
  12. Install the new spring in reverse order. Make sure to reinstall the rubber pad between the spring and frame
  13. Lift up the control arm using a spare floor jack.
  14. Install the bolts for the rear shock and wheel knuckle. 
  15. Install the wheel and slowly lower the vehicle. 
  16. Torque the lug nuts to 130 lbf-ft.
